Date: 23/09/2024 - LNC LogisticsNetwork Consultants, based in Hanover, Germany, participates in the BRAVE partnership, a European Union-supported initiative aimed at establishing seven flagship regional investment ecosystems for cleantech projects across Northern Europe.
The BRAVE project, which stands for Business Readiness Acceleration for Innovative Regional Energy Ecosystems, addresses the gap in financial support and partnership models necessary to move cleantech innovations from local pilots to larger-scale implementations. By securing funding from the EU's Interreg North Sea programme, BRAVE aims to generate €150 million in new investments across the participating regions over the next four years.
Closing the Investment Gap for Regional Cleantech Projects
Europe needs €700 billion annually to achieve its energy transition goals, particularly for clean, smart, and local energy systems. Investment is crucial across all project stages, but cleantech projects ranging from €10 million to €100 million often struggle to secure capital, even when market-ready. This results in stagnation, with viable innovations stuck in the pilot phase. BRAVE tackles this by building regional ecosystems to support mid-sized cleantech investments.
A Pan-European Partnership to Scale Cleantech
BRAVE unites partners from seven regions – the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, Sweden, and Germany – to create regional public-private investment ecosystems. The focus is on scaling cleantech solutions across energy sectors like low-carbon transport, heat pumps, hydrogen hubs, and energy communities. BRAVE works with finance experts to address regional challenges and create business models that de-risk energy investments by combining public and private funds. They aim to mobilize a combined €150 million in regional energy investments, attracting public and private finance into the 'missing middle' of energy finance, while developing replicable business models and public-private partnership frameworks to accelerate cleantech adoption across Europe.
LNC’s Role in BRAVE
LNC LogisticsNetwork Consultants will support project partners in the development of business models for their regional public-private investment ecosystems. With a focus on logistics and mobility, we will help build stable collaborations with local businesses.
Meet the BRAVE partnership
BRAVE unites local public authorities, regional business support organisations, the cleantech private sector, and applied research to develop replicable business and partnership models for cleantech ecosystems. The partners include the City of Rotterdam, BRAVE's Lead Partner, supported by InnovationQuarter and ICOS Capital, Pôle MEDEE and transition accelerator CD2E for the City of Amiens, the City of Malmö, BOM in the Netherlands, Flux50, working with the City of Antwerp and local ESCOs, the City of Aarhus, and LNC from Hanover.
The seven regional ecosystems will receive commercial development expertise from Cambridge Cleantech International and Cleantech Scandinavia, the Erasmus Center for Entrepreneurship, and the University of South-Eastern Norway.
