Zero-emission last-mile delivery: Focus on micro depots

Fördermöglichkeiten für Kommunen und Unternehmen zur Umsetzung von Mikro-Depots für eine klimafreundliche Gestaltung des Lieferverkehrs werden ausgeweitet.

Funding opportunities for municipalities and companies to implement micro depots for a climate-friendly design of delivery traffic will be expanded.

The emission-free delivery of shipments over the last mile is highly relevant for cities and municipalities in terms of the climate-friendly design of inner-city delivery traffic.

The use of alternative means of transport such as cargo bikes and e-vehicles in delivery traffic is currently being increasingly observed in many cities. In order to be able to supply customers on the "last mile", i.e. from the last transshipment point to the end customer, without emissions, decentrally distributed depots are necessary.
Here, shipments are temporarily stored and transferred to alternative means of transport, such as cargo bikes. Micro-depots thus represent an essential building block for the sustainable and climate-friendly design of delivery transport.

Municipalities and companies can obtain financial support for the implementation of micro depots from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). A new funding guideline was published as recently as March. In addition, budget funds of around 11 million euros are available until 2021 as part of the Urban Logistics funding program. Applications can be submitted until August 31, 2021.

LNC has been active in the field of "Urban Logistics" for years and is currently supporting various municipalities in Germany to develop locations and utilization concepts for micro depots.
